Related collections

In a collection template, you can add a section named Related Collections that will display other collections related to the collection a user is already in. This section will appear only if the number of related collections on a collection page is bigger than 0.

For this particular section, we have split the documentation in two. We will first enumerate the general settings of the sections and then we will present you with the most relevant setting of the section named Source of collections.

General settings of the section

You can easily configure the heading content and style of the section, you can update the heading content, size, fill, and style by updating the settings below:

You can also configure the color scheme of the section by selecting one in the setting below

You can also update the section size in the setting below. This will make the section smaller or bigger. You can choose between the following options: compact container, container, and full width.

We also give you the possibility to update the collection featured images' aspect ratio. You can choose between the options below.

Regarding the collection titles you can hide them, uppercase them, or make them bold by updating the following settings:

You can update the limit of allowed subcollections that will appear in this section. We will ensure that the customer is not presented with the identical collection they are currently viewing.

If the number of collections is bigger than the width of the screen they will be presented in a slider. You can customize the slider type and if you want to display arrows or not.

You can update the padding top and bottom for desktops and phones.

Source of collections

The most important setting of this section is the source of collections.

This setting can be configurated in the dropdown below and can have one of the following values:

  1. Manually added in the collection list setting below - If you want all the collections with this template to have the same list of related collections you can pick them by pressing Select Collections and checkbox all the relevant collections

  2. Based on menu. Select menu below - If you want the source of collections to be a menu you will need to add one in the following setting. With this source of collections chosen and the menu selected, we will browse through the menu's collection and showcase the collections located below the one a user is already in.

Let's take a menu as an example.

If the menu is this one and the user is in the collection summer, in the related collection section will appear the direct subcollections Tops, Summer pants, and Summer Dresses.

If the user is in the collection Summer Dresses, we will display the subcollections Summer Dresses Pink and Summer Dresses Blue.

And if a user is in the collection Tops, based on this menu and setting, we will not display this section on the page, because no relevant subcollection is under Tops.

  1. The first collections in the store

If you choose this source of collection we will simply pick the first other collections we find available in the store.

  1. Based on collection metafield collection_list

If you want to pick manually for each collection the subcollections this source of collection is appropriate. In the same way you edit a title for a collection, we will learn you how you can add an option to pick (with a collection picker) the related collections.

For this, you will go to the Shopify admin and in the left bottom part of the screen, you will find a button named Settings.

After you press it you will search in the submenu for the Custom data subsection

You will press it, and then under Metafields select Collections

After this, you will press Add definition

You will complete the name "subcollection_list" and verify in the namespace and key to have exactly the following "custom.subcollection_list"

After this, you will press Select type

and search for "collection"

You will select it, and after this, you will have the possibility to pick One collection or a List of collections

You will press on List of collections and then save the metafield.

Now, when you press Products> Collections > And then select a collection you have this option in the bottom of the page

Here, for each collection in part, you can press Select Collections, and manually add all the relevant related collections. After you edit all the collections, you can go back to the section in the customizer and make sure the source of collections is based on the metafield.
